Regulation of Tokenized Securities

Synopsis

The European Union market regulator is trying to collect feedback regarding any need for amendments to accommodate tokenized securities

The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) is asking for feedback from its stakeholders that are using blockchain technology in the settlement and trading of tokenized securities.

In specific, ESMA wants to know if any amendments are required to be made to the current rules to ensure effective trade using DLT (Distributed Ledger Technology).

The ‘DLT pilot’ project of ESMA, will search for methods that will help in identifying the ways for data stored on the blockchain network to ensure secure, efficient, and cost-effective trading and settlement of securities. The project is expected to be launched in 2023.

The stakeholders have been instructed to submit their feedbacks before March.
