Google has moved to the court against Dmitry Staroviko and Alexander Filippov and 15 other people behind the creation of Glupteba Botnet that uses blockchain technology to hijack the computers and use their resources for mining. As per the case filed by Google, the attackers hijacked the victim’s accounts to mine cryptocurrency on their computers and are also involved in selling victim’s information to third parties and allegedly used credit card information of the victims for shopping and payments.

According to Google, the Botnet used the blockchain technology as a leveraged weapon in order to evade itself from the cyber protective tools thus making the tracking and shutting down of the Bot extremely difficult. Though Google has shuttered the attack to an extent but due to the use of blockchain technology the attackers can re-launch the attack anytime unless the complete architecture of the Bot is not disrupted on the blockchain. To counter this, the company has moved to the courts so that everyone behind it is prosecuted and such attacks can be prevented in the future.

According to Google this is the first such attack that leveraged the blockchain technology for hijacking making it much more difficult to counter.
